![]() ![]() It's all packed into this album (glass?) of Lemonade.Īn issue I'd always had with Beyoncé's albums was that they never felt refined to me. The themes of love from Dangerously in love. Musically Lemonade feels like a melting pot of all that Beyoncé has done over the course of her career, somewhat refined. Quite a feat given the number of writers involved and that not all of the material was specifically written with her in mind. Beyoncé embraced earnestness with her self-titled album, but she pushes it even further here. We've gotten songs that have pointed in the direction of both of these accounts before, but never with this level of frankness. Across both of these albums we get Beyoncé talking about getting wiped down in the back of a car, how her pussy tastes like skittles and telling her man that he done fucked up and that he's trash. Two things that Beyoncé went at great lengths to protect our image of. Lemonade is about the liberation of not having to uphold an image of perfection. Beyoncé is about the liberation of womanhood in a world that tries to box it. Both albums represent an awakening and also a catharsis. Lemonade feels completely different to the self-titled album which came before, but still feels wholly connected to it. No picture of whatever pop star her father wanted her to be. ![]() ![]() It marks the first time since we saw her whipping her weave on a stoop talking 'bout 'No, no, no' that we actually see and hear Beyoncé Giselle Knowles. And by the fourth track is clear that Beyoncé is officially Jay-Z's 100th problem.īut amidst all of the drama, the tea and the revelations from what we thought was a perfect marriage, Lemonade is one of Beyoncé's most visceral albums. The album opens with Beyoncé declaring that she knows Shawn is out in those streets cheating with Becky with the good hair. And it doesn't take long for this to be uncovered. But the real surprise was the story that fleshed out across each of its tracks. “And we’re all like, ‘We understand fully, that’s no problem, we’re happy to be here.Beyoncé's sixth studio album came with somewhat more warning that her fifth. ‘I’m so sorry you guys had to leave the room but Jay’s not comfortable,’” Bun recalls her saying. We’re not allowed to watch Beyoncé dance anymore,” Bun says.īun B says Beyonce eventually came over to them to apologize and explain what happened. “So they immediately come over to us and they kick all of us out to our dressing rooms and we’re told to stay there until we have to shoot. The racy scene prompted Hov to protect his then-girlfriend and have all the men cleared out of the room. Well, let me say this: there were other men there, but they weren’t straight.” He’s like, ‘Yeah how’s the video going, what’s going good, are the guys there?’ All the guys that are with us are the only men there. “If I had to guess it would’ve been her cousin Angie that he would’ve talked to because Angie has always been a right hand to Beyoncé. They’ve got a leg up on the chair so you can kind of see some thigh and maybe a little bit of butt if you’re staring hard enough, and Jay-Z calls and talks to one of her assistants,” Bun continues. “While all of this was happening, I think this is the scene with the chair, so it’s like her and several other girls and they all have these short skirts on and they’re all dancing seductively on the chair. The Trill OG began setting up the vibes on set of the Hype Williams-directed video. ![]() Beyoncé’s dancing in this short skirt and she’s dancing in like a bikini,’ type of thing, you know.” Queenie is there also, so it’s not like I’m there salivating over another woman,” Bun says, referencing his wife’s presence at the shoot. So we’re on the set and we’re filming the video, and if you look at the video, there’s a lot of kind of skimpy outfits. “Yes, to me that was something that was apparent at the time,” he said, adding, “Wi know that artistry is artistry suh a nuh every time dem ting deh gwan.”īun B had a similar experience following his collaboration with Beyoncé and Slim Thug, “Check On It.” The host of the Too Live Crew, Action & the Burgerman radio show added that the Brooklyn rapper was jealous and didn’t want them spending too much time together. Me neva feel comfortable needa, but mi jus use my diplomacy all di while an guh roun any likkle obstacle weh me have inna life,” said Paul to Dancehallmag. “Yuh si weh you seh? You neva feel comfortable. ![]()
